01 — The challenge
Canvas set out to bring cashless, app-driven money management to the whole household — children learning to spend responsibly, domestic workers managing day-to-day outlays, and elderly parents who needed a simple, secure way to transact. Traditional bank cards and cash envelopes couldn't provide the real-time visibility and control the household needed, and off-the-shelf prepaid products were too rigid to cover the range of users and permissions a family actually wants to configure.
Building the product meant bringing together card issuance, real-time spending visibility, multi-user permissioning, and region-specific compliance (eKYC, MyInfo, PayNow integration in Singapore) into a single, consumer-grade mobile experience on both iOS and Android.
02 — Our approach
Canvas engaged us to build the end-to-end solution — mobile apps, card-issuing capability, and a custom software platform behind them. We partnered with Railsbank for the underlying banking services and built customised, scalable, flexible native applications on top, so household members could manage spending from their own phones with parents retaining control over funding and limits.
The delivery combined React Native for a consistent iOS/Android experience, PHP and Node.js on the server side, and integrations with the Singapore fintech stack — eKYC for identity verification, MyInfo for streamlined onboarding, and PayNow for instant local transfers. The prepaid Visa card issuance flow was built into the same experience so the physical card and the app behaved as a single product.
03 — The outcome
Launched Canvas's prepaid Visa card and mobile app to market, giving households a single secure tool for managing spending across children, domestic workers, and elderly parents — with real-time visibility for parents and the independence to transact responsibly for everyone else.
